What's In a Name?

What's in a name? Apparently, a lot.

Defensive tackle Stylez G. White, formerly known as Greg White, was a huge factor in Staurday's pre-season match up with Tennessee, in which he recorded an interception and two sacks. White, who has been with the Buccaneers since August 4, 2007, has been on the defense but has never been known to make such an immense difference in the pass rush. It seems odd how just after White changed his name from Greg White to Stylez G. White we are seeing such a drastic change in his performance.

Perhaps all of the Bucs should consider a name change.

Another Year Another Quarterback Battle

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are once again heading into training camp with a battle at the quarterback position. Luke McCown, who has been on the Buccaneer roster for a few years, has been a shadow of quarterbacks Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia and was hoping that 2009 would be the year he would be starting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During the off season, however, the Bucs seemed to go a different direction. They picked up free agent Byron Leftwich, who played most of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who found success with a few teams before signing with Tampa in April. Also, the Bucs drafted Josh Freeman in the first round. The youngest competitor for the QB job finished his junior year at Kansas State with 8.078 career passing yards.

Only the next few weeks will show us which of these soldiers will win the battle to command the Bucs offense this season.
